Rockstar Games' latest feature on the weaponry from Max Payne 3's devastating arsenal highlights the submachine guns (SMGs) - lightweight automatic weapons that can hose their targets with bullets within seconds. With the weightlessness of a pistol and the rapid-fire rate of a much bulkier machine gun, these spray and slay weapons make short work of enemies at close quarters as the holder maintains slick maneuverability throughout.

You can dual-wield the lighter SMG models such as the M10 and the Micro 9mm to let these slug slingers take out opponents in double-time. Prefer a little more kick in your SMG? Then pick up the heavier SAF .40 with two hands and rip through the armor of your foes.

Explore the video above to see more of the SMGs unrivaled speed, mid-range accuracy and surprisingly powerful punch in action, along with detailed 360-degree renders that show off all of its individually modeled components and a selection of new screenshots.

Fighting vicious criminals and his own personal demons while in the volatile Brazilian metropolis of São Paulo, Max Payne is reminded of his fair share of trouble found on the streets of New York City.

200Check out some hands-on impressions of Max Payne 3 that have hit within the last week - from PC Gamer, The Guardian and Vox Games:

"It's easy to be impressed with the style and detailing, but it's not until you actually take control of Max that Rockstar's work begins to really sparkle... There were concerns that a cover system could rip the heart out of Max's up 'n at 'em carnage, but here it’s just a small part of your arsenal. You'll be able to hunker down for a brief moment of respite, plan an attack and maybe pop a few bad guys before flinging yourself back into action, but you won't be able to clear a room from behind a wall without being blitzed. Enemies move in smart flanking movements to flush you out of your position. The trained paramilitaries, in particular, are far more tactical than the wild, suicidal guerillas... On this evidence, Rockstar has Max Payne 3's action nailed." - The Telegraph

"...my favorite part of Max Payne is the moment before I storm a room, when I’m plotting who I’ll take out first, where I’ll take cover, and when I’ll activate the series’ signature slow-mo 'bullet time' for the deadly conclusion. It’s like I’m a film director with the power to choreograph and execute absurdly challenging action scenes on the fly... I’m the conductor of a big gory symphony, and the Euphoria engine’s procedural animations are my musicians. Enemies tumble over railings, Max braces his falls, and every bullet jerks and contorts its victim." - PC Gamer

"It's this drive for realism that leaves every moment of Max Payne 3 feeling unlike any other shooter I've played… That was made clear to me when, trying to be ultra fancy, I took a running dive down a flight of steps in a South American soccer stadium while surrounded by gun-toting mercs. Mid-way through the dive, Max's adrenaline (what powers his signature bullet time), ran out and he came tumbling to earth in a flailing mess… I was thrilled. I had never seen such a realistic tumble down a flight of steps in a video game before. Hell, it felt like I had slipped. My back ached just watching it. Max didn't die, but he was worse for wear, clutching his own back. We bonded over our mutual anguish." - Vox Games (The Verge)

"Transfer Deadline", this week's original artwork release from Max Payne 3 features Max and Passos in a tense scenario that takes place on the pitch at a local soccer stadium, with the duo in the middle of a deadly cash exchange for the kidnapped Fabiana Branco. A transaction that - as you will see for yourself come this May - doesn't quite go so smoothly...

Rockstar Games have received a ton of fan inquiries regarding the powerful music heard in the recent official trailer for Max Payne 3. Rockstar are proud to reveal the artists responsible. Los Angeles-based rock band HEALTH are currently in the process of composing for both the score and soundtrack to the game, as revealed on music website Pitchfork.com today.

"Video games are redefining entertainment and whether people like it or not, they are becoming as culturally relevant as films,” said the band's Jake Duzsik. "We feel that Rockstar’s projects have an undeniably raw and tasteful aesthetic. It's vitally important to us that we be involved in things we respect artistically. Max Payne 3 has a complex story that unfolds mercilessly and we are excited to be a part of it."

HEALTH's distinctive style perfectly suits Max's dark story, and the band went to great lengths to ensure that unique sounds and motifs were used to represent each specific locale featured in the game. In addition to composing the dynamic in-game score, HEALTH is creating exclusive songs for the game’s forthcoming soundtrack (which you can get as part of the Special Edition package).

Look for announcements of more soundtrack details - including contributions from some of Brazil's own, and behind the scenes information about the music's creation.
