The series will be produced by Marvel Custom Solutions, and it will be released as a digital graphic novel as well as limited edition print editions. The series will also be written by Sam Houser, and Remedy's Sam Lake. Cover art will be created by Greg Horn and other ink and pencil drawings being done by Fernando Blanco.

The original Max Payne 3 comic series will "delve into Max's troubled past - exploring the events that occured in and around Max Payne and Max Payne 2", according to Rockstar. "[it] will shed new light on Max's early years".

Issue one of the series will be released in a "few weeks time", as stated by Rockstar.
